GM Observations

Scratch a solo attempt by England. England offered Kiel to France which means England has decided to play for a draw as well. This looks like it’s heading for a 4-way draw since Austria has moved away from attacking Italy.

This leads me to wonder why these players have all decided to play for a draw. Austria had an opportunity to go for a solo, as did England. Both have passed them up. I suppose England still could, but it would probably be somewhat self-destructive since France would probably turn against England to allow A/I to grow more. It will be interesting to read from the players why they chose this path. Perhaps they value a draw as much as a solo. Perhaps they were afraid of being retaliated against to the point that they would be eliminated or give up a solo. Or, perhaps something will change and one of them will go for a solo yet. There’s also the chance that E/F gets Austria to take over Italy and narrow this to a 3-way draw. If the players care about their ranking on the website, there’s a good chance they will do this.

Player Journals

England

The only hope I see now of participating in a victory and it not being a 4-way is to invite Austria into Italian Centers.

We need to first shore up the stalemate line in Germany.  Once that is solidified, if we haven’t made surprise gains against Italy, we should be safe in supporting Austria into Italian Centers.  As long as we can keep him out of Germany and hold the Tunis through Marseilles line, Austria will be prevented from getting to 18 and we can cut the draw to a 3-way.

France

russia gone, nice step, Northern Territory is secured

Bal s Ber will secure Ber too, so next step is to secure Mun.

This is well possible by Bur and Ruh support Mun.

hopefully we can take out Italy to get a three-way draw

Italy

Well, that went well. Now to turtle up and hope for the best. I suppose Austria will take me out eventually, but there wasn’t anything better on offer.

This all starts to work if France defends MUN at all costs. If he takes the correct risk, then it will have limited success.

Let’s also hope that Italy is aware of the support he will be receiving. Italy must hold the line for a 4-way to be possible. If not, well…..
