The Turkish Gunboat Solo Win Plan
Turkey’s usual plan is to take over the entire South (Austria, Italy, the Balkans neutrals, Tunis, and Russia’s closest 3 home centers) plus Munich. But if Turkey allies Russia until the very end, Turkey could advance far to the west.
Some variation on the plan
- In most games, Turkey will solo win by getting control of the entire Southern side (including Tunis) plus also Munich for 18. Other centers are just too difficult for Turkey to reach because they are distant, indefensible, or both.
- The scenario where Turkey wins by taking Iberia and southern France happens when playing “Juggernaut” (alliance with Russia), with a very late backstab against Russia.
Turkey should keep fleets to a minimum
- Nearly all the centers Turkey needs to control must be contested with armies. Fleets are necessary in the beginning to break out into somewhere Turkey can actually attack (Turkey must have control of Black Sea, Aegean Sean, or both), but after that the value is minimal (mostly Turkey uses them to convoy armies forward to speed them up).
- Exception: If Turkey is playing the “Juggernaut” alliance with Russia, Turkey must build more fleets than usual.
Extreme levels of overlap with Austria’s plan
- Note the extreme levels of overlap with the Austrian solo win game plan. This overlap makes Austria and Turkey each others’ natural enemies by far.
No ally is really necessary
- The most common solo win plan for Turkey is this:
- Invade the Balkans (including the Austrian home centers).
- Austria must be destroyed, and the sooner the better because Austria is directly in the way of the most distant needed center, Munich.
- Then the following in either order:
- Invade Italy (and snatch up Tunis)
- Invade Russia
- Meanwhile, move towards Munich as fast as possible because Turkey must get control of this center before the Northern powers form a stalemate line.
